Catalogue & merchandising

Build a product catalogue that answers before customers ask

Make photos, descriptions, sizes, colours and stock work together so buyers know exactly what they are ordering.

The useful takeaway

Treat every product page as a conversation with someone who cannot pick up the item or ask you a question in person.

Name the product in the customer’s language

A title such as “Cotton kurti with three-quarter sleeves” tells a shopper more than an internal code or “New arrival 07”. Keep the product type easy to recognize and put meaningful details into the description. Use collection names for browsing, without forcing customers to understand your stockroom naming system.

For books, capture the relevant edition, language and format. For jewellery, describe the material and dimensions only when you can verify them. Do not reuse a category template as evidence that a product has a particular property.

Choose photos that help someone decide

Show the full item, a close view of important details and any included pieces. Keep colours as faithful to the product as possible. If the item comes in multiple colours, check that the images correspond to the selected option.

A clean background can make a photo easier to read, but it cannot replace information about fit, texture or scale. Avoid showing accessories in a way that implies they are included when they are not. Explain what the buyer receives.

Keep variants, prices and stock aligned

Fashion shoppers choose a specific colour and size, not an average of all the stock in a collection. In ReelMart, those combinations can have their own stock and selling prices. Check each combination before making the product visible.

If you sell the same item offline, decide when and by whom online stock will be updated. A display of available stock is only useful when the underlying information is current. Do not assume separate selling channels automatically share inventory.

  • Every offered colour and size is a real combination
  • Each combination has the intended price and stock
  • Photos match the product options
  • Unavailable choices are reviewed before promotion
  • Someone owns updates after offline sales

Write descriptions from facts, including when using AI

Cover material, fit or dimensions, included items and care instructions where relevant. Use details from the product or supplier information you trust. Avoid unsupported claims such as “pure silk”, “hypoallergenic” or “waterproof”.

ReelMart offers AI drafting assistance. Give it specific facts, then review the draft against the item. Remove invented properties, measurements or performance claims. You remain the editor; a polished sentence is not proof that a claim is true.

Make collections and offers easy to understand

Group products around useful customer choices, such as occasion, product type or audience. Use banners to guide shoppers into those collections. An offer headline should match the price and conditions customers see when they reach the product.

Finish with a phone check: can you read the name, see the item, choose an option and understand the policy without guessing? Keep a list of questions customers still ask and use it to improve the catalogue.
